Job summary
JBN Consults & Planners Limited is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Graduate Trainee – Environment Scientist to support the delivery of environmental consulting services across the firm's portfolio of projects. The successful candidate will assist in conducting environmental assessments, monitoring, and compliance activities.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Environmental Assessment & Compliance
• Assist in the preparation and review of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs).
• Conduct environmental baseline surveys, field data collection, and site assessments.
• Monitor project compliance with national environmental regulations, standards, and project-specific mitigation measures.
• Support environmental auditing activities for ongoing and completed projects.
• Liaise with the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and other regulatory bodies as required.
Reporting & Documentation
• Prepare technical reports, field notes, monitoring logs, and correspondence.
• Maintain accurate environmental databases and document management systems.
• Contribute to the preparation of client deliverables and presentations.
Stakeholder Engagement
• Participate in public consultations, community engagement, and stakeholder meetings.
• Support awareness-raising activities on environmental protection and compliance.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Academic Qualifications
• A Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resource Management, Forestry, Conservation Biology or a closely related field from a recognized institution.
• Must have graduated no earlier than 2024.
Work Experience
• This is a graduate-entry position; no prior work experience is required.
• Hands-on field experience gained during academic training, internships, or voluntary work in an environmental context is desirable.
Skills and Competencies
• Working knowledge of Ugandan environmental legislation, NEMA guidelines, and EIA processes.
• Working knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with any GIS tool(s) is an added advantage.
• Strong analytical and report-writing skills in English.
• Ability to work in the field, including in rural and remote locations.
• High level of integrity, diligence, and attention to detail.
