Microhaem Scientifics & Medical Supplies Limited (MHS) is seeking an accomplished Research & Development Director to lead medical-device innovation, product development, and technical strategy from concept through commercialization.

This is a senior opportunity for a global medical-device, diagnostics, biomedical, or systems engineering leader who thrives in highly regulated environments and is ready to help shape the next generation of diagnostic technologies emerging from Africa.

The Opportunity

The R&D Director will serve as a technical leader and subject-matter expert across:

• End-to-end medical-device product development

• System architecture, design controls & product requirements

• Risk management, verification & validation

• Point-of-care and rapid diagnostic technologies

• Design transfer and manufacturing readiness

• Product lifecycle management and continuous improvement

• Technical troubleshooting and root-cause investigations

• Regulatory and health-authority engagement

• Cross-functional collaboration across R&D, Regulatory, Quality, Manufacturing and Clinical teams

• Development of new technologies and commercially scalable products

We’re Looking For

✔ 10+ years of medical-device R&D experience

✔ Master’s degree in Biomedical, Electrical, Systems Engineering or related discipline; PhD preferred

✔ Strong experience in point-of-care and rapid diagnostic technologies

✔ Proven experience with ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC and WHO standards

✔ Strong hands-on experience in product research, design, testing and development

✔ Experience in a medical-device startup or high-growth technology environment highly valued

✔ Strong systems-level thinking and technical problem-solving ability

✔ Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects and cross-functional teams

✔ Entrepreneurial mindset, scientific rigor and strong execution capability
