Company Description

Agrovitor is placing candidates for an agribusiness aggregating maize and beans from smallholder outgrowers around Wakiso, trading for about a decade and now buying from roughly four hundred households across a catchment it has grown parish by parish rather than by signing everybody at once.

Yields in that catchment sit well below what the varieties can carry, which is the whole commercial problem: the business cannot buy what was never grown.

Role Description

The Field Agronomist is a full-time, on-site role based in Wakiso, responsible for providing agronomic support and guidance to farmers and agricultural partners. Day-to-day tasks include visiting fields to assess crop health, soil conditions, and irrigation practices; recommending practical solutions for improving yields; and providing advice on plant nutrition and sustainable farming techniques. The role involves collecting and analyzing field data, conducting on-farm trials and demonstrations, and documenting findings for continuous improvement. The Field Agronomist will also deliver training sessions, prepare technical reports, and collaborate with internal teams to develop agronomy programs that meet local needs. Regular communication with farmers and stakeholders is essential to ensure effective implementation of recommended practices.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in Soil Science and Plant Nutrition, with the ability to diagnose soil and crop issues and recommend appropriate interventions.
• Applied knowledge of Agriculture and Irrigation systems, including practical experience with crop management and water-use efficiency in the field.
• Research skills, including designing field trials, collecting data, analyzing results, and translating findings into actionable recommendations.
• Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Soil Science, or a closely related field.
• Experience working directly with farmers or agribusinesses in a field-based advisory or extension role.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions and travel regularly within Wakiso and surrounding areas.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts in simple, practical terms.
• Strong problem-solving, observation, and record-keeping skills, with attention to detail and safety standards.
• Proficiency in basic digital tools (e.g., spreadsheets, mobile data collection, email) for reporting and communication.
• Knowledge of local cropping systems and languages used in Wakiso is an advantage.
