Job descriptions & requirements

We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our engineering team.

Kweli Energy is a captive solar and hybrid energy company delivering stable, reliable power to commercial, industrial and residential clients across East Africa - whether grid-connected, grid-constrained or completely off-grid.

Our work spans the design, redesign, optimisation and delivery of integrated power systems combining solar generation, battery storage, the grid and standby diesel generators into intelligent power architectures that deliver greater reliability, lower long-term energy costs and improved operational productivity for our clients.

As part of our engineering team, you will contribute to:

  • Power system design, review, and optimisation
  • Site assessments, load studies, and technical surveys
  • Solar PV, battery energy storage, hybrid and grid-connected projects
  • Electrical distribution, protection, cabling, earthing, and system integration
  • Development and review of SLDs, layouts, schematics, BOQs, and technical documentation
  • Equipment selection, system sizing, and engineering calculations
  • Installation supervision, quality control, testing, and commissioning
  • Troubleshooting, fault analysis, and corrective engineering
  • System upgrades, retrofits, and performance optimisation
  • Technical proposals, project planning, and engineering reviews
  • Working with fellow engineers, technicians, contractors, suppliers, and clients throughout project delivery
  • Supporting the development of increasingly complex power projects, including mini-grids and larger grid-connected infrastructure

We are looking for an engineer who is comfortable both at the drawing board and in the field - someone who can analyse a problem, contribute sound engineering judgement and work with a wider team to turn a design into a safe, reliable and maintainable power system.

Qualifications.

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
  • At least 2 years of relevant engineering experience
  • Strong foundation in electrical power and power systems
  • Practical experience in electrical design, installation, testing, commissioning, or system optimisation
  • Ability to interpret and develop professional engineering drawings and technical documentation
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with solar PV, battery energy storage, hybrid power systems, or grid integration is an advantage
  • Experience with engineering design, CAD, or power-system analysis tools is an advantage
  • ERB registration, or demonstrable progress towards professional registration, is preferred
  • An appropriate ERA Electrical Installation Permit is an added advantage.

We are particularly interested in engineers who want to grow with the complexity and scale of the projects they work on - from distributed energy systems to mini-grids, grid-connected generation, storage and broader power infrastructure.

Location: Kampala, Uganda, with project-site travel across East Africa.

To apply, submit your CV through LinkedIn together with a brief summary of projects you have personally contributed to, clearly indicating your role in the design, supervision, testing, commissioning, or optimisation of those projects.
