Our core offerings include REMOT (an IoT and data platform for remote monitoring, after-sales support, and preventive maintenance), local electronics manufacturing, and engineering consulting services.

Role Purpose
The Commercial Engineer will play a key role in driving adoption of REMOT and Innovex’s hardware solutions (e.g. smart meters, controllers, and related electronics) across Africa. This role combines technical expertise with strong commercial acumen to:
- Identify, qualify, and close new business opportunities;
- Design and present technical solutions tailored to customer needs;
- Support customers through pilots, deployment, and early operations;
- Feed market insights back into product development.
The ideal candidate understands both the business case and the technical details of digital tools and energy solutions, is comfortable in front of customers, and thrives in a fast-paced, growth-stage environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Business Development & Sales
- Identify and qualify new leads among solar companies, equipment OEMs, distributors, project developers, and development organisations.
- Own the full sales cycle from first contact to signed contract: prospecting, discovery, demos, proposals, negotiation, and closing.
- Prepare and deliver compelling technical and commercial presentations, demos, and proof-of-concept trials.
- Develop and manage a healthy pipeline in the CRM, with clear stages, values, and close dates.
- Support the development and implementation of sales strategies, pricing models, and go-to-market campaigns.
- Achieve and exceed agreed sales targets (revenue, new accounts, devices, and subscriptions).
2. Solution Engineering & Technical Support (Pre- & Post-Sales)
- Work with clients to understand their technical and operational requirements (systems, data, integrations, and workflows).
- Translate client needs into solution designs, including recommended REMOT configurations, hardware options, and integration approaches.
- Prepare system architecture diagrams, bills of materials, and basic deployment plans for proposals and RFP responses.
- Conduct technical product demos, remote and on-site, including test installations and pilot projects.
- Provide 1st-line technical support during pilots and early roll-out, coordinating with internal engineering teams on complex issues.
3. Customer Success, Training & Account Development
- Support the onboarding of new customers, including training for technical teams, installers, and management users.
- Maintain strong relationships with key accounts through regular check-ins, performance reviews, and expansion discussions.
- Identify upsell and cross-sell opportunities (e.g., adding more devices, additional modules, value-added services).
- Collect and document customer feedback to inform product improvements.
4. Internal Collaboration & Market Intelligence
- Work closely with hardware, software, and operations teams to align customer expectations with product capabilities and delivery timelines.
- Provide structured feedback on feature requests, common issues, and market trends.
- Support marketing efforts with technical content (case studies, product sheets, webinars, events).
- Monitor competitor offerings, pricing, and go-to-market approaches, and share insights with the leadership team.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related technical field.
- 3–5 years experience in a Commercial Engineer, Technical Sales, Solutions Engineer, or similar role.
- Demonstrated track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets in a technical sales environment.
- Strong understanding of:
- Energy systems, or related power systems; and/or
- Digital solutions (devices, connectivity, cloud, dashboards, APIs).
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Comfortable with data and digital tools (CRMs, dashboards, basic analytics).
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently within Uganda, across the region and continet as needed.
Preferred Skills & Attributes
- Experience responding to RFPs, writing proposals, and preparing commercial offers.
- Prior experience selling to B2B customers is preferred.
- Tech savvy and familiarity with cloud platforms and APIs (e.g. REST APIs, webhooks) and integrations with third-party systems (e.g. CRMs, ERPs, billing platforms).
- Demonstrates exceptional organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple opportunities and priorities simultaneously.
- Self-driven, proactive, and comfortable working in a dynamic startup environment.
- Experience working with in the energy industry is a plus
