#TakeControl: Empowering Uganda’s Youth with Jobs, Skills & Opportunities

BrighterMonday Uganda & Mastercard Foundation launch #TakeControl to equip young Ugandans with skills, mentorship & job opportunities. Take charge today!

Ten years ago, BrighterMonday Uganda set out on a mission: to connect job seekers to the right opportunities and help businesses build strong, skilled teams. A decade later, we’ve impacted millions of lives, but we know the journey is far from over. As we celebrate this milestone, we’re not just looking back—we’re taking off.

Introducing the #TakeControl Campaign

In partnership with Mastercard Foundation, we are launching the #TakeControl Campaign, a bold initiative to empower young people with the tools, resources, and networks they need to own their career journeys. This partnership is part of our broader vision to tackle youth unemployment and help job seekers transition from learning to earning confidently.

Why This? Why Now?

Uganda’s youth are the economy’s heartbeat, yet over 70% of young people struggle to find meaningful employment. The challenge isn’t just a lack of jobs—it’s a gap between skills, opportunity, and access.

We’ve spent ten years building a platform that connects talent with opportunity, but we’ve learned that job search success goes beyond just applying online. It requires a shift in mindset, a network of support, and practical skills development. With #TakeControl, we continue to drive this change, building on years of experience empowering job seekers to navigate and thrive in the job market.

A Journey Powered by Purpose

The Young Africa Works (YAW) program by the Mastercard Foundation is a transformative initiative dedicated to unlocking opportunities for Africa’s youth. With a goal to enable 10 million young people to access dignified employment by 2030, the program focuses on bridging the critical gap between education, skills, and job market demands. Through this initiative, the Mastercard Foundation drives meaningful career pathways, ensuring that young Ugandans have the tools they need to thrive.

In partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, the #TakeControl Campaign is BrighterMonday Uganda’s latest effort to empower young people to shape their career paths confidently. By providing access to career development resources, employer-led training, and mentorship, we are strengthening our decade-long commitment to bridging the gap between job seekers and opportunities. This campaign isn’t just about finding jobs—it’s about equipping young professionals with the tools to build sustainable, fulfilling careers in an evolving job market.

What’s in Store: A Roadmap to Success

Through this campaign, we’re committed to providing:

  • Career coaching and mentorship to help job seekers grow their confidence and skill sets.
  • Employer Q&A sessions to give insights into real-world job expectations and opportunities.
  • Real success stories from young Ugandans who have taken control of their careers and thrived.
  • Practical, hands-on training programs designed by employers to equip youth with in-demand skills.

The Road to the Physical Launch – May 6th
