Job Summary

The Program Manager position supports DfG Uganda's strategic management in the areas of program development, implementation, monitoring, and reporting. The Program Manager is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of current and new Days for Girls Uganda Programs.

Job Description/Requirements

Duties & Responsibilities:

Program Oversight (25 Hours per week)

  • Develop proposals for programs that will successfully transition Days for Girls training and distribution programs to more long-term development programs;

  • Represent Days for Girls and liaise with local and national authorities, NGOs, and businesses to promote DfG programs, facilitate successful coordination of activities, and ensure transparency and accountability to all stakeholders;

  • Provide technical inputs and assistance to programs with particular reference to program management and reporting systems;

  • Oversee the preparation and submission of annual activity-based project budgets;

  • Participate in strategy development conversations with wider Days for Girls International, DFGU program Office and staff network.

  • Ensure project activities comply with the policies and regulations of DfGU and donor organizations.

  • Ensure close collaboration and coordination with cooperating partners to guarantee smooth implementation of activities and achievement of results as specified in grant agreements.


Program Development

  • Responsible for taking lead in strengthening and expansion of DfG Ugandan programs;

  • Responsible for the development and execution of project deliverables, coordination of project planning, budgeting, action plans and monitoring processes;

  • Draft and editing proposals for funded and funding programs and special projects;

  • Track project implementation and support DfG response to changes in context, beneficiary needs, and donor positioning;

  • Development of internal and external reports, including: reporting templates, setting deadlines, coordinating input, and final editing and review;

  • Produce accurate and timely reporting of program status throughout its life cycle;

  • Employ resourcefulness in project design, implementation, and monitoring;

  • Troubleshoots project problems. Identifies and implements creative solutions.

Training/Capacity Building (5 Hours per week)

  • Training, coaching, and mentoring of staff to support program functions

  • Quality assurance of products and service delivery of Days for Girls

  • Coordinate DfG trainers to plan, implement, and deliver training and education programs in strategic program areas in Uganda and throughout East Africa;

  • Work closely with the partner Project teams to coordinate with Enterprises, organize training logistics, deliver training material, and work with DfGU trainers;

  • Provide capacity-building support to our in-country team and strengthen the operational systems of the organization on the ground;

  • Provide support to Days for Girls enterprises in Uganda


Documentation and report writing (2 Hours Per week)

  • Take the lead in timely production of quality program reports of the organizations as per internal and donor requirements.


Social Enterprise Support ( 7 Hours per week)

  • Connect monthly with each Social Enterprise to celebrate successes, discuss challenges, identify needs for additional capacity building, and share learnings as well as collect each Social Enterprises’ Monthly Impact Report (MIR) data.

  • Ensure all MIR data for Social Enterprises is collected and submitted via the MIR form by the 15th of every month.

  • Establish relationships of trust with Social Enterprise Leaders, ensuring smooth operations and problem-solving

  • Work to create an inclusive community of support amongst DfGU Social Enterprises. Foster an environment where mutual support can be given and received.

  • Work closely with the Global and/or regional sewing specialists to provide quality sewing training (in person and/or virtual) to the Social Enterprises. Be an eye on the ground to facilitate the Enterprises to adhere to kit quality standards.

  • Work closely with the DfGI Chapter and Enterprise Programs Team to support Certified Enterprises to get Gold Certified and those due for re-certification to renew their Gold Certification. Submit kit component photos to the global sewing specialist for assessment and validation when needed

  • Coordinate with the DfGI Chapter and Social Enterprise Programs Team and Global Advocacy Director to ensure that the Social Enterprises provide quality menstrual health education and advocacy based on DfG guidelines and policies

  • Support the Social Enterprises to adhere to their country-specific legal production requirements. 

  • Assign orders of DfG Kits and DfG Menstrual Health Education from the DfGI website to Gold Certified Social Enterprises, that is best fit to meet the need and also ensure equitable distribution of orders between Social Enterprises, over time. Liaise with the DfG Distribution Coordinator to ensure each order is fulfilled and report back on this.

  • Support the Social Enterprises to access and use the resources available in the Enterprise Leadership room. Support the Enterprises to meet all their administrative requirements e.g. signing an up-to-date licensing agreement when required, login their DfG email, submit specific required Enterprise data, use the right logo, etc.

  • Ensure timely and accurate responses regarding DfG’s Social Enterprise Program, in a way that shows respect and appreciation for DfG stakeholders. 

  • Submit supply chain orders, through the Taro Works system, on behalf of Uganda Social Enterprises and coordinate with the Uganda Hub when servicing orders. The Program Manager is the communication link between the Social Enterprise and Uganda Hub.

  • Work with the Uganda Country Manager and DfGI Chapter and Enterprise Programs Team to establish annual country-wide Social Enterprise goals. Regularly communicate shared country goals to Social Enterprises. Ensure data is regularly collected to track progress. Foster a collaborative environment where Social Enterprises feel motivated to work collectively towards this common objective and shared vision. 

  • Work closely with the Country Manager and DfGI Chapter and Enterprise Programs Team to identify needs and develop and deliver training and capacity building, and as needed to enhance the skills, success, and sustainability of Uganda Social Enterprises and ensure that the Social Enterprises are in compliance with DfG policies and processes (this includes business, sales and marketing skills, advocacy, education, sewing quality ec).

  • Where necessary, be a communication bridge between DfG and other stakeholders by translating between local languages and English

  • Actively participate in Program Department calls. Learn best practices from other countries, and share learnings and successes.


Advocacy & Outreach (1 Hour per WeeK)

With Country Manager and/or Global Advocacy Director requests, contribute to advancing DfG Uganda and DfGI’s advocacy-related activities including but not limited to representing DfG Uganda and/or DfGI on panels, coalitions, government meetings, and with large partners.
