The Escapist: Freelance Gaming Writer

The Escapist is looking for new and experienced writers to help build the site's video game coverage. This is a fully remote contract position.

The Escapist is a website dedicated to the mature discussion of video games and other media, so we're looking for awesome people who love video games and want to write about them. While we're focusing heavily on building our guides coverage right now, news and features are also a big part of The Escapist's brand, and you'd have the option to write for those sections as well.

Preference will be given to those with knowledge about one of our key focuses, which are listed below. If you know a lot about any of those subjects, make sure to tell us in your cover letter!

Key Focuses:

• Pokémon
• Call of Duty
• Sports Games (NBA 2K24, EA FC 24, etc.)
• Star Wars
• JRPGs
• HoYoverse Games (Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, etc.)

Requirements:

• Excellent English language writing skills.
• Eagerness to learn and incorporate feedback.
• Must be a self-starter who can complete pieces in a timely manner and pitch trending ideas.
• Willingness to play and dive into games.
• An understanding of online gaming communities.

Preferred:

If you've got any of the following, please note that in your cover letter:

• Familiarity with Google Trends.
• Experience writing SEO.
• Weekend availability.

Pay range: $15 to $75 USD per article, depending on length & type. Rates may differ for international candidates based on location.
