The Remote Area Manager will be responsible for overseeing multi-site operations and maintaining heavy mobile equipment, cranes, and industrial assets. Ensures optimal performance, safety, and efficiency, while leading teams and executing large-scale maintenance projects in demanding oil, gas, and mining environments.

Duties & Responsibilities:
· Specialized Equipment Management: Oversee the maintenance, operation, and repair of a diverse fleet of equipment including:
o Mobile Cranes, including TEREX, and Liebherr cranes (20T to 200T capacity).
o Forklifts, such as CAT forklifts (1.5T to 15T)
o Manlift Equipment
o Heavy-duty Trucks: Mercedes, Ford, International, and MACK models.
o Support Vehicles: Toyota fleets, including cars, pick-ups, and minibuses.
· Fleet Optimization: Manage the scheduling, maintenance, and repairs of all equipment, ensuring maximum uptime and adherence to strict performance targets.
· Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance: Ensure that all operations meet local and international health, safety, and environmental regulations, with a focus on equipment handling and site safety.
· Project and Maintenance Management: Lead and coordinate preventive and predictive maintenance efforts to avoid downtime and improve equipment reliability.
· Budget Management: Develop, manage, and control the CAPEX and OPEX budgets related to equipment and fleet maintenance, ensuring cost-effective operations and resource allocation.
· Client and Stakeholder Management: Maintain strong relationships with clients, addressing their operational needs and ensuring that all service level agreements (SLAs) are met.
· Team Leadership: Lead a team of technicians and engineers responsible for the maintenance and operation of specialized equipment, ensuring ongoing skills development and knowledge transfer.
· Camp Management: Over the management of a service provider running our accommodation camp
· Reporting: Provide monthly reports on key performance indicators, equipment availability, safety incidents, and budget performance to senior management and stakeholders.
Experience & Education Requirements:
Key Qualifications:
· Extensive experience with the maintenance and operation of mobile cranes, heavy-duty forklifts, and manlifts, with a focus on ensuring high availability and safety standards.
· Expertise in managing preventive and predictive maintenance processes across a diverse equipment fleet, with strong knowledge of root cause analysis and reliability engineering.
· Proven ability to lead multi-site operations and manage large teams in high-pressure industrial environments.
· Strong budget management skills, with a focus on optimizing resource utilization and managing CAPEX/OPEX effectively.
· Familiarity with regulatory requirements in equipment maintenance and safety compliance, including HSE standards and legal frameworks in the mining, logistics, and industrial sectors.
· Proficiency in CMMS systems, and advanced skills in using tools like Microsoft Office Suite.
Specialized Experience:
· Minimum 10 years’ experience with oil and gas or mining operations, workshop coordination, and logistics support, including fleet alignment with operational needs.
· Proven track record managing large-scale fleets of equipment, including:
o mobile cranes (up to 200T capacity), including TEREX and Liebherr models.
o CAT forklifts (1.5T to 15T)
o A variety of trucks and specialized vehicles, including MACK, Mercedes, and Ford models.
o Manlifts and a range of support equipment.
Education and Certifications:
· Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in one of the following:
· Mechanical Engineering
· Heavy Equipment Engineering
· Automotive Engineering
· Plant Engineering
· Or
· Technical diploma in heavy equipment maintenance combined with extensive relevant experience (10–15+ years).
· NQF 7 Managers' Leadership Development Certification
· Project Management, Corporate Governance, Strategic Management
· Occupational Health & Safety Training and Industrial Relations certifications.
