Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Provide expert advice on tax laws and regulations in Uganda.

• Ensure compliance with VAT, PAYE, corporate tax, and other statutory obligations.

• Prepare and file tax returns, including provisional and final tax submissions.

• Assess the impact of tax law changes on the company’s financial operations.

• Liaise with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) on tax-related matters.

• Conduct tax audits and risk assessments to minimize liabilities.

• Train finance personnel on tax compliance and reporting procedures.

• Develop tax-saving strategies while ensuring legal compliance.


Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in taxation, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in tax consulting or corporate taxation.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with knowledge of local Tax regulations.


Technical Skills:

• Tax Software Proficiency: Experience with tax preparation and accounting software like Tally, QuickBooks, SAP, or other enterprise tax management tools.

• Financial Modeling: Ability to build tax impact models for strategic planning and decision-making.

• Advanced Excel Skills: Competency in pivot tables, macros, and complex financial formulas for tax calculations.

• Data Analysis & Reporting: Expertise in analyzing tax data and generating reports for audits and financial planning.

• Knowledge of International Taxation: Familiarity with cross-border tax regulations, especially concerning imports, exports, and multinational transactions.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent knowledge of Ugandan tax laws and regulations.

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tax-related projects.


Additional Skills:

• Tax Audit & Forensic Accounting: Ability to conduct in-depth tax audits and investigations to identify discrepancies or risks.

• Tax Risk Assessment & Mitigation: Understanding of tax exposure, risks, and strategies for optimizing compliance.

• Legal & Regulatory Interpretation: Strong ability to interpret and apply Ugandan tax laws, including corporate tax, VAT, and withholding tax rules.

• ERP System Integration: Experience integrating tax compliance frameworks within enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.

• Financial Statement Reconciliation: Expertise in reconciling tax entries with financial statements for accurate reporting.


Reporting Structure:

The Tax consultant will report directly to the General manager and collaborate closely with office employees and other members of the company’s team.
