Role Summary and Purpose:

The Quality Control Officer is responsible for supporting Quality Control inspections, identifying quality risks in the process plant, and working with the Quality Control and Processing Team Lead/Supervisor to close the risks.


Key Result Areas Key Duties/Responsibilities Key Performance indicators/ deliverables

Ensure adherence to GMPs and all food safety guidelines

  • Enforces proper handling of fish throughout processing activities to avoid product damage.
  • Enforces the use of proper icing techniques throughout the process to maintain the freshness of the fish.
  • Ensures high hygiene and housekeeping standards are maintained across all processing operations.
  • Monitors the packaging and loading process to ensure the fish reaches the market while fresh and presentable.
  • Ensures employees are following all Food Safety and worker safety practices.
  • Carries out Quality control inspections to meet Quality standards.
  • Trains Production and Processing employees on food safety and SQF standards.
  • Identifies Non-conformance in the processing section and rectifies the same.
  • Update of process, personnel and environment inspection records daily.
  • Educate processing staff that don’t comply with food safety regulations immediately upon observation.
  • Report all non- conformances and corrective actions done to QCTL on the day of occurrence.
  • Inspect processing plant, ablutions and external surroundings daily to ensure adequate cleaning and hygiene is maintained.


Sampling and calibration 

  • Select products and ingredients for testing from specific stages of the production process.
  • Test products and ingredients for varying qualities such as chemical, physical, and sensory characteristics.
  • Samples for external and internal analysis taken according to sampling schedule.
  • Conduct quality inspections of raw materials, products and in process checks daily.


Data reporting and interpretation

  • Ensures quality inspection results are recorded and reported as per Yalelo standard manuals.
  • Records test data while applying statistical quality control procedures.
  • Interprets data that was gathered against formulas, standards, and other specifications to determine quality and reliability standards
  • Keeps line manager team abreast of significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities/inspections and actions being taken to improve the situation.
  • Update quality data in Microsoft forms daily.
  • All power BI reports to be updated by the second day of the month.


Certification

  • Supports and implements continuous improvement activities and process and procedure improvements to optimize results and improve quality of delivery, in line with Company and Customer requirements.
  • Enforces strict adherence to Legislative requirements and Business process requirements.
  • Evaluates data and communicates results with management to identify non- conforming products.
  • Maintains current and accurate records of all relevant communications, audits, corrective action plans, and effectiveness monitoring.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of government and industry quality assurance codes and standards, responsible for food safety issues.
  • Ensure all quality files are always up to date.
  • Issue corrective action requests for all non- conformance immediately upon observation and ensure a corrective action is done within 5 working days.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor


Key Qualifications and Work Experience required for the role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Technology and/or Fisheries and Aquaculture
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in quality control operations.


Skills and Ability needed for the role:

  • Strong leadership, planning, communication and training skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and record keeping skills.
  • Resilience and the ability to work independently and effectively under pressure.
  • Demonstrated expertise in food safety management systems such as ISO 22000:2018,hazard control (HACCP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and Good Hygiene Practices(GHPs).
  • Have good knowledge, skills and experience in the food industry including national and international standards/ regulations.
  • Mastery in inspection/ audit processes and ability to coordinate several inspections/ audit activities simultaneously.
  • Must have successfully completed internal auditor training course.H17


Working conditions:

  • 48 hours per week.
