Job Summary

The physiotherapist will work as a member of the Amazima Ministries Medical Department, in order to provide high-quality medical services to all children holding an Amazima scholarship, those attending The Amazima School or select members of the community. They will work closely with the nursing department to identify and skillfully treat those suffering from medical issues, in need of rehabilitation services.

The physiotherapist will work as a member of the Amazima Ministries Medical Department, in order to provide high-quality medical services to all children holding an Amazima scholarship, those attending The Amazima School, or select members of the community. They will work closely with the nursing department to identify and skillfully treat those suffering from medical issues, in need of rehabilitation services.


The physiotherapist will begin developing a team of rehabilitation specialists, to work with the Medical Department. They will use their expertise by developing treatment plans, having regular therapy sessions, and assessing new cases. It will be a full-time position and work out of the Buziika clinic, and Amazima School Sick Bay. This role will be the first of its kind at Amazima Ministries, and therefore it is necessary that the person in this position has leadership abilities and is passionate about developing this program.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Reports to The Amazima School and Buziika Clinic to provide therapy services
  • Directly reports to the Nursing Director and is responsible to notify him/her of significant changes in treatment plans for patients
  • Communicates with primary care providers to adjust treatment plans and goals of care
  • Performs home visits when necessary and works on home modifications to suit the needs of patients
  • Collaborates with other members of the health care team to better understand physical conditions
  • Strives to involve family members or guardians in the care of patients
  • Work with children with disabilities regularly to meet their unique needs
  • Assist patients to obtain and properly use equipment such as wheelchairs or walkers
  • Keep detailed patient records to track goals and progress
  • Educate patients and family members on conditions and how to support the rehabilitation process
  • Develop individualized treatment plans for patients
  • Use methods of treatment such as exercises, stretches, hands-on therapy, massage, etc. to decrease pain, increase mobility, and prevent further injury
  • Participates in Amazima Ministries staff events and department meetings
  • Accompanies patients on medical trips to see specialists, when necessary
  • Receives referrals from the nurses of patients that could benefit from therapy services, and makes quick consultation
  • Works with members of the special needs department, in order to train staff on how to best care for children with disabilities

QUALIFICATIONS


  • Education: Diploma or Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience: At least 2 years experience¬†
  • Able to speak Luganda and English fluently
  • Minimum 2-year work experience, including experience working with children with disabilities
  • Able to provide options and make recommendations to contribute to better health outcomes
  • Works well as a member of an interdisciplinary team
  • Professing believer in Jesus Christ, which is indicated by an attitude and lifestyle of godliness
  • Able to read, write and communicate effectively- including proficiency in typing and computer skills
  • High level of critical thinking and problem solving
  • Takes initiative and is able to adjust to various working environments
