1 MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT To support the delivery of WWF Uganda conservation strategy through the development and implementation of efficient and effective systems in people management and culture. 2 MAJOR FUNCTIONS The People & Culture Manager is responsible for : Developing and implementing the People and Culture components of the Uganda Country Office (UCO) Strategic Plan in compliance with the Global WWF People and Culture policies and standards. Ensuring that WWF Uganda maintains the highest standards in People & Culture management, fostering the embedding of a culture based on network citizenship; respecting the ways of working; in order to support the achievement of the Country Office conservation goals and objectives articulated in the Strategic Plan. He/she is part of the Country Leadership Team of WWF Uganda.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Position title: People & Culture Manager, WWF Uganda

Reports to: COO, UCO

Dotted line to: Director P&C, Africa

Supervises: None

Grade: Management level 2

3 MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide strategic P&C leadership and oversight to ensure conservation impact at scale for WWF UCO.

Develop and manage the P&C annual work plan/budget to ensure the attainment and delivery of plans and objectives.

Lead the development, implementation, management and monitoring of P&C systems, policies and procedures for WWF UCO including recruitment and selection, compensation and benefits, training and development, career development and succession planning, health and safety and diversity, equity and inclusion to ensure the compliance with WWF network standards and local laws and regulations.

Plan, maintain and organize the effective communication of all P&C related policies & procedures to employees.

Provides strategic comprehensive advisory and technical guidance to the Country Leadership team on all aspects of people and culture to ensure a good working environment and strengthen organization reputation and capacity building.

Address and implement leadership development, talent management, succession planning and performance management in line with that of WWF International policies, with the aim of building culture of high performance aligned with core values and behaviours

Act as a strong employee champion by encouraging and maintaining sound employee relations and undertaking all necessary consultation and negotiation with staff on employee issues to ensure that harmonious relationships and effective communications are maintained between management and staff. Support both line managers and staff on disciplinary or grievance processes, or in the event of collective disputes.

Lead the development of the Organizational Development (OD) strategy for WWF UCO, in conjunction with CLT, and implement the P&C’s annual work plan under OD strategy until a substantive OD professional is appointed.

Provides People & Culture management support to regional/transboundary embedded programmes (Energy, Greater Virunga Landscape).

Take part in salary surveys led by the Compensation & Benefits unit to ensure that the organisation has accurate and up to date information relating to external pay; participates in and makes recommendations on annual remuneration reviews.

Act as the Fraud and Corruption/Compliance Focal point of the Country Office: train and raise awareness to staff, including Induction to new staff about the Compliance and Ethical standards; investigates and reports on related incidents, recommends any improvement plans that may be necessary, to ensure that WWF UCO complies with WWF’s Code of Conduct .

Undertake other tasks as requested and agreed with the COO or Country Director.


4 PROFILE

Required Qualifications and Experience.

Minimum Bachelor’s degree in HR, Law, administration, Business Management or other related fields; A Master’s Degree will be an added advantage.

At least 8 years of professional experience in people management and/or organizational development (min 3 years in a supervisory position).

Proven record of accomplishment in people management.

Excellent understanding of laws and regulations on labor, health and safety of Uganda.

Fair understanding of diversity and inclusion.

Experience in developing, implementing and monitoring the compliance of P&C systems, policies and procedures, preferably in the context of an international NGO.

Position requires an excellent level of both oral and written English.


Required Skills and Competencies.

Good knowledge of Ms Office suite and HRIS systems.

Ability to manage conflicts and work well under pressure.

Ability to think strategically, with solid problem-solving and business acumen skills

Good planning & organising skills.

Facilitation, presentation, negotiation & influencing skills.

Organisational awareness and service orientation.

Strong ability to bring together and inspire teams together for impact delivery.

Experience of working in an international, matrix structure would be an advantage.

Superb interpersonal skills that help connect with staff and externally across different audiences.

Must be a team player with very strong diplomatic and communication skills.

Demonstrate the highest level of integrity and confidentiality.

Self-starter, proactive approach to meeting deadlines and achieving results in a tight schedule.

5 WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Internal : Interacts on a regular basis with the Uganda Country Office Leadership Team, Programme leaders, P&C team at Regional & National level, Global P&C Community & Network, F&C Focal point Group and the Compliance team.

External: Liaises with P&C professionals in the country, Auditors, Insurance companies, Tax Department, Social Security and other relevant government bodies. Engages with other organisations on P&C systems and practices for learning and sharing
