The Role

GSVL is looking for an experienced and passionate People and Culture Officer to maintain and enhance the organization's human resources by planning, implementing, and evaluating employee relations and human resources policies, programs, and practices to ensure a great staff experience.


Responsibilities

1. Talent Acquisition

● Develop and deploy comprehensive talent acquisition plans and processes

● Work with the department heads to improve the candidate experience, through onboarding

● Partner with department heads to meet talent needs and enable the growth of the business


2. Talent Development

● Develop and deploy an organizational performance review process

● Develop and host training to meet the needs of the organization

● Recommend talent management and succession planning initiatives

● Accelerate development and retention of key talent; help increase investor returns


3. Human Resources

● Create a safe work environment for all employees; develop infrastructure to do that

● Hearing and resolving employee grievances; counsel employees and supervisors


4. Company policies

● Assist in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures; help prepare and maintain the employee handbook

● Advise managers on HR policies, their interpretation, and application, and manage involuntary terminations


5. Rewards

● Work with the Finance Manager and Team Leader to set benefits and compensation packages for the staff and contractors

● Establish and maintain compensation programs that support GSVL’s culture and objectives

● Ensure competitive, equitable, motivational, retentive, and consistent rewards program

● Work with the Finance Manager and Team Leader to operate within budgetary constraints


6. Compliance, Legal & Regulatory

● Mitigate risk by ensuring HR policies are compliant with the regulatory requirements in Uganda

● Conduct investigations, maintain records, and represent the organization at hearings

● Protect the interests of the company by ensuring compliance with employment laws

● Maintain up-to-date knowledge on human resources issues/trends and evolving legislation

● Communicate changes in company policies and practices to leadership and employee base


7. Culture

● Administer and analyze Pulse Surveys to improve employee engagement and retention

● Collaborate with the leadership team to refine the company’s vision, mission, and values

● Identify and deploy initiatives that contribute positively to company culture (e.g., recognition)


Qualifications:

● Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Industrial Psychology, Education, or any other related field. A Master’s degree in Human Resource Management is an added advantage

● Five (5) years of Human Resource experience


Required Experience and Competencies:

● Experience working in a fast-paced, growing company where the business is constantly evolving

● The candidate should be mature, with good judgment, integrity, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

● Must be willing to roll up your sleeves and build processes, as needed

● Knowledge of HR practices, laws, and regulations in Uganda

● Ability to effectively influence, build trust, communicate and interact with all levels of the organization

● Proven self-starter with foresight that is able to analyze issues and provide solutions

● Systems (e.g. UltiPro, MS Office Suite, HRIS systems Google Workspace) proficiency
