Position Title: Pathologist-In- charge

Position Family: Medical Doctor/Pathologist

Position Grade: E3


Position Summary:

To plan, direct, and manage staff, material, and financial resources to provide safe, cost-effective, quality, and professional medical pathology services in specialty.


Dimensions:

The post holder is responsible for a total staff complement of (All Technical Staff).

This includes 2(two) direct and 2(two) indirect reports.

The post holder manages the following sites: (All In-Country Laboratories Technical Activities.)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Laboratories 

  • Conducts strategic and annual planning and provides direction on technical and laboratory administrative functions in alignment with the company's Strategic themes.
  • Manages profitability of Laboratories through expense control and customer relationship management.
  • Actively promotes the company's brand through professional presentation and high levels of customer service.
  • Oversees adherence to professional conduct requirements in line with organizational policy and relevant professional body ethical Standards.
  • Oversees quality standards and lean processes in accordance with the principles of Good Laboratory Practice, accreditation requirements, and UM&DPC and AHPC discipline-related scope of practices, including quality control, health and safety, standard operating procedures, turnaround times, and flow of testing. Ensures accreditation is maintained.
  • Performs pathology diagnostics, verifies, interprets, and signs out test results, and consults with referring doctors.
  • Oversees development, and implementation of new tests. Provides input into evaluation, verifications, and validations of new equipment and methods to ensure standardization and continuous technological advancement.
  • Manages medical practitioner/pathologist staff and oversees levels of performance of these staff in the laboratory.

  • Oversees quality standards and lean processes in accordance with the principles of Good Laboratory Practice, accreditation requirements, and UM&DPC and AHPC discipline-related scope of practices, including, health and safety, standard operating procedures and turn-around times. 
  • Actively promotes the company and the company's brand through professional presentation and high levels of customer Service.


Customer Relationship Management.

  • Monitor and manage turnover by doctor, clinic, and depot.
  • Tie in top supporters through service level agreements and customer relationship Management.
  • Build strong customer relationships with Doctors, Hospital staff, Infection Control, and Pharmacies.

  • The post holder has full authority and discretion with regard to taking decisions and issuing instructions that relate to the key performance areas and including financial decisions.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Master’s of Medicine degree in Pathology or equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council
  • Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB.) or its equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council
  • Registration with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council
  • The valid practicing license in pathology from Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council


REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • The post holder should preferably have at least 5 (FIVE) years of relevant experience as a UM&PDC certified pathologist specialist, including managerial experience.
