Job Description/Requirements

The Parish Coordinator is responsible for providing support, advice, and training to farmers. A PC collaborates with local authorities, and other stakeholders within Kijani Forestry Company to identify and engage farmer groups. They proactively address issues affecting operations, oversee nursery sites, and ensure the successful implementation of seedling production and tree planting and management activities. Parish Coordinators conduct regular site assessments, resolve queries, monitor progress, and provide technical guidance to ensure high-quality service delivery and farmer satisfaction. Strong communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills are essential for this role.



  1. Farmer Group Mobilization and Training:

  • Identify and register eligible farmer groups within the parish, ensuring alignment with Kijani Forestry’s objectives.

  • Mobilize farmer groups for training in tree nursery establishment, tree planting, management techniques, and best agroforestry practices.

  • Provide ongoing support to farmers by offering expert guidance on agroforestry best practices, sustainable land use, and soil conservation.

  • Organize field demonstrations and workshops for knowledge transfer on nursery management and agroforestry practices.

Nursery and Seedbed Management:

  • Collaborate with farmers to identify suitable sites for tree nurseries to ensure sustainable and optimal production of seedlings.

  • Supervise the establishment and management of seedbeds, ensuring high-quality seedling production.

  • Oversee and facilitate the distribution of seedlings, maintaining accurate records of seedlings dispatched to farmers in groups and non-group farmers.

  • Ensure seedling survival through proper farmer guidance on nursery management techniques, proper planting techniques and ongoing monitoring.

Site Assessment and Monitoring:

  • Conduct regular field visits to assess nursery activity progress, tree planting progress, identify potential issues, and provide support to farmers.

  • Advise farmers on species selection and site-species matching to optimize growth.

  • Monitor survival rates of planted trees for the first 2 months and recommend interventions like gap filling.

  • Coordinate the registration of planting sites and ensure accurate documentation of planted areas.

Documentation and Accountability:

  • Maintain thorough documentation of all activities, including farmer group registrations, training sessions, seedlings produced, and planted trees.

  • Support digital registration of nurseries and seedlings using M&E tools ie Kijani App tool.

  • Prepare and submit daily progress updates via the Kijani App and any other information through parish Slack channel or email to keep the team informed.

  • Provide detailed reports and accountabilities to the Branch Coordinator regularly.

Inventory and Resource Management:

  • Record, store, and distribute all materials, tools, and resources for tree planting activities, ensuring proper management.

  • Monitor resource use to prevent wastage, ensuring accountability in seed, materials and tool distribution.

  • Maintain updated inventory records and submit reports to the Branch Coordinator.

Community Engagement:

  • Collaborate with local government, NGOs, and community leaders to mobilize and engage the community in tree planting initiatives.

  • Organize sensitization campaigns to raise awareness about the benefits of tree planting and sustainable land use.

  • Coordinate with farmer group leaders and other stakeholders to promote experience-sharing and problem-solving around agroforestry practices.

  • Facilitate planning meetings with local stakeholders to ensure coordination on Kijani forestry programs.

Internship Program:

  • Identify suitable candidates from the local community for Kijani Forestry’s internship program, providing opportunities for capacity building.

  • Collaborate with the Branch Coordinator to ensure interns receive the training needed to build expertise in kijani forestry practices.

  • Oversee the performance of interns in the field and ensure their integration into company activities.

Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations during all field activities, including the use of protective gear.

  • Promote sustainable practices, emphasizing waste management to promote soil conservation, water management, and biodiversity protection.

  • Conduct regular assessments with the farmers to confirm adherence to environmental standards and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • At Least UCE certificate

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work in harsh conditions and remote areas.
