DENYS  is an independent construction company, based in Belgium and working on significant infrastructure projects in Europe and Africa. DENYS would like to invite qualified and interested candidates for the following position in Uganda


The OHS Officer is overall Accountable and Responsible for the Health and Safety performance of the organization. The officers create and develop health and safety policies, and make sure these policies are monitored and implemented. He/she is responsible for creating HS standards and HS goals for the project. Ensuring risk assessments are carried out and safe working procedures are implemented. Carries out regular site inspections and provides guidance and advice to HSSE Manager within the organization. Prioritize safety in all aspect and makes sure the required PPEs are distributed and oversees that they are been used correctly. Implements safety and health initiatives and assesses the competence of the employees within safety roles and sometimes gives training to employees on each task/job that is been undertaken The OHS Officer should lead by example and uphold the mission and values of DENYS.

 

Main duties & Responsibilities

  • The OHS Officer  will oversee, direct, and guarantee the following deliverables are fulfilled in a safe and efficient manner:
  • Assist HSSE Manager to update project Quality, Health, Safety,  Environmental and Social Safeguard plan 
  • Accountable for General health and safety performance of the project 
  • Oversee Denys’ safety program and coordinate, consistent application of the safety policies and program 
  • Help the HSSE Manager to Develop, conduct or manage all safety training for Denys, including but not limited to: Safety Policy and Procedures, Supervisory Training, Policy Manual Training, Medical Response Training, Fire Drill, Toolbox Talks etc.                        
  • Identify workplace safety hazards and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize them.  
  • Develop and review, with recommendations to Denys HHSE Manager, policies, procedures and programs that will reduce or eliminate accidents and injuries and prevent issuance of regulatory citations.
  • Make regular proactive site visit to ensure safety procedures are adhered to 
  • Ensures PPE’s are distributed equally and make sure they are used correctly to prevent pre-mature damage  
  • See to it that all sub-contractors follow the procedure as stated in the QHSE Plan
  • Provide feedback to HSSE  Manager  

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in Health & Safety, in the construction industry specifically
  • Degree in Occupational Health & Safety 
  • A diploma / Degree in Engineering  will be an advantage 
  • International Diploma In OHSE will be Advantage e.g. Nebosh , OHSAS , ISO 
  • Superior organizational skills
  • Clear and concise communicator
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Must have an in-depth knowledge of international HSE standards and Codes of practices
  • Familiar with MS Office 
  • Speaks and writes English and Luganda
