Job Description/Requirements
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Market Support Field Officers. The successful candidates will support growth of women and youth-led enterprises in the fisheries and aquaculture value chains across select African countries, including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, DRC, and Nigeria.
The Market Support Field Officer will play a crucial role in enhancing market access and trade opportunities for women and youth involved in the fisheries sector across East Africa. This position involves working closely with local communities, government agencies, and regional trade bodies to facilitate inter-country trade, improve market linkages, and support sustainable economic growth.
Preferred Locations:
Uganda: Jinja, Kasese/Fort Portal
Key Responsibilities
- Program Implementation: Assist in the implementation of business and market development programs that promote gender inclusivity in the fisheries and aquacultures sectors.
- Market Analysis and Research: Conduct market research to identify trade opportunities, market trends, and potential barriers for women and youth in the fisheries sector.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including local communities, government agencies, NGOs, and regional trade
organizations. - Capacity Building: Organize and facilitate training programs and workshops to enhance the skills and knowledge of women and youth in market access, trade regulations, and business development.
- Trade Facilitation: Assist in the development and implementation of strategies to
improve market linkages and facilitate cross-border trade. - Monitoring and Evaluation: Track and report on the progress of market support activities, ensuring alignment with project goals and objectives.
- Communication: Coordinate with the communications department to scout for success stories and case studies for sharing to both internal as well as external audiences.
- Advocacy and Policy Support: Advocate for policies and regulations that support inter-country trade and the economic empowerment of women and youth in the fisheries sector.
- Reporting: Prepare detailed reports and documentation on business and market development activities and outcomes, with a focus on gender impact.
Key Performance Indicators
The role holder will be assessed on:
1. Program Implementation Quality and Timeliness
Number and quality of market development programs executed within agreed timelines
Adherence to project milestones and Lattice’s strategy, policies, and processes
2. Market Access and Trade Facilitation Impact
Number of new market linkages created and sustained over time for women and youth-led enterprises
Volume or value of inter-country trade facilitated within fisheries and aquaculture sectors
Percentage increase in market access for program beneficiaries in targeted regions
3. Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Management
Number of strategic partnerships formed with government agencies, NGOs, trade organizations, and local communities
Frequency and quality of engagements with stakeholders, including feedback on collaboration effectiveness
4. Capacity Building and Training Effectiveness
Number of workshops or training sessions conducted with women and youth participants
Participant satisfaction and learning outcomes (measured through surveys or feedback)
5. Research and Market Analysis
Completion of market research reports with actionable insights for women and youth enterprises
Identification of trade barriers and potential solutions within the fisheries sector
6. Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Accuracy and Reporting
Consistency in tracking and reporting on market support activities and progress against objectives
Quality and timeliness of M&E reports submitted, with specific focus on gender impact and economic growth
7. Advocacy and Policy Influence
Number of advocacy efforts or policy recommendations submitted that support inter-trade and gender inclusion
Success rate of advocacy efforts that lead to favorable policy changes or support from governing bodies
8. Communication and Success Story Identification
Number of success stories and case studies documented and shared with internal and external audiences
Quality and engagement metrics (e.g., shares, views) for communications materials highlighting project impact
9. Field Presence and Travel Efficiency
Frequency of field visits conducted and engagement with local beneficiaries across regions
Responsiveness to travel and on-site requirements to maintain project alignment.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Economics, International
Trade, or a related field.At least 3-5 years of experience in business to market development, trade facilitation, or a related field, preferably within the fisheries or agricultural sectors.
Strong understanding of the local fish market landscape and regional trade dynamics.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to work with diverse stakeholders and build collaborative relationships.
Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
Willingness to travel frequently within the region.
