Background 

Umoja Microfinance is a Ugandan Microfinance located at Plot 1a, Suuna, Lane, Ntinda, and started its activities on 1st October 2021. Umoja is a microfinance institution licensed by the Uganda Microfinance Regulatory Authority (UMRA) and a member of the Association of Microfinance Institutions of Uganda (AMFIU). Umoja Microfinance exists to serve and empower people to build brighter futures together. Umoja means “unity” in Swahili. We are focused on improving lives through financial inclusion for all people. Overall Job Purpose 

The HR Field Team Officer will hold a key role in acting as a liaison point between the HR Field Team Lead and the Operations Field Team. Based in the given region, this role will carry out the day-to-day tasks of an HR Field Officer for the given Region as well as Field Operations duties.


Key Responsibilities 

Day-to-Day Duties and Responsibilities

Activities for this part of the role should be structured so that you are in the field for 50% of your time daily as follows; out with the field team in the morning and returning to the branch in the afternoon. 


General Tasks: 

  • Implement and coordinate the Branch Training Plan for the given Region and ensure daily training sessions are being held on topics relating to Branch Performance as well as Loan Officer and Branch Manager Performance. 
  • Carry out and coordinate PSO Training for all new joiners in the given Region ensuring all New Joiner paperwork is fully completed and compliant with the HR Checklist and Personnel File checklist and submitted to the head office promptly. 
  • Support the Area and Regional Managers in developing the performance and capabilities of their teams in the field. 
  • Support Monitoring efforts by carrying out monitoring activities in the field taking guidance on areas to focus on from the Head of Operations and Operations Manager. 
  • Carry out HR- tasks when in the Branch that include but are not limited to 
  • Act as a point of contact for the Field Teams on HR-related matters, escalating to the HR Field Team Lead accordingly. 
  • Provide regular updates and reports to the HR and Operations Teams on matters such as attendance, annual leave use and planning, grievances and challenges, resignations, exit interview feedback, payroll related information, in the required format and as per set deadlines. 
  • Have regular feedback sessions one on one with team members and in forums to gather feedback with suggested solutions and actions for discussion with the HR and Operations Management Team. 
  • Support in all general HR Administration tasks as directed by Supervisor including but not limited to tasks relating to payroll, annual leave, insurance schemes, benefit schemes advice and queries, HR System guidance, etc. 
  • Support the Branch teams with the quarterly, bi-annual, and annual performance evaluation process, carrying out refresher training annually and supporting the team with queries as they arise to ensure 100% completion and high-quality accurate submissions.

Skills/Qualifications (Internal Applicants) 

Minimum Requirements 

  • Branch Manager with at least 6 months of experience 
  • Minimum Borrowers - 1000 members 
  • Minimum total outstanding Amount - 300m 
  • PAR less than 5% 
  • Clear and clean previous people management skills demonstrated in existing tenure.


Skills / Qualifications (External Applicants) 

  • Must be a Branch Manager from a reputable Microfinance 
  • Critical analysis and thinking skills
  • Problem solver with a keen interest in providing safe environments for both staff and clients by ensuring the best HR practices are in place for the smooth running of Operations.
