Duties and Responsibilities

  • A mandate to make our client  the number one publication for news and entertainment in Uganda (both website and social)
  • Full leadership and supervision responsibility for the editorial, social media, graphic design, and video teams
  • Oversee Editorial planning and strategy execution  - reporters should contribute original reporting in real-time across the company website and social media channels 
  • Ensure quality control of all published content - story authenticity, fact-checking, zero plagiarism, correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc. - and ensure stories are reflective of our Editorial guidelines and journalistic best practice, ethics, and standards at all times
  • Oversee editorial video planning and strategy execution, ensuring that complex topics are broken down into a variety of monetizable formats that readers will want to watch and share
  • Ensure creatives used are consistent with brand guidelines, fit for purpose, targeted, and compelling for maximum impact
  • Work closely with the Head of Marketing and Content Growth to ensure that marketing strategies for the company and are effective in building brand positioning and awareness
  • Work closely with the Managing Director and commercial team to support sales and lead generation efforts
  • Prepare weekly and monthly traffic and performance reports using effective benchmarks and actively identify and implement strategies to increase the reach and relevance of the company
  • Liaise with Tech & Product Teams on the back-end and front-end updates, mobile development, and CMS changes
  • Ensure synergies with other company products and teams are maximized and closely collaborate with the international teams
  • Promote a work environment of continuous improvement, manage team learning sessions and facilitate knowledge sharing on an ongoing basis
  • Build relationships and strategic partnerships in the industry with relevant stakeholders
  • Stay up to date on the latest trends and be aware of competitive activity in the market to ensure that the company offering is always innovative
  • Represent the company at industry events exploring opportunities to promote our brand image
