Our client is a leading seed and food provider. The company is looking for self-motivated and qualified personnel to take on the role of General Manager. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the overall management of the company. The main duties and responsibilities of the General Manager will include the following;
∙ Ensure seed and food supply is in line with agreed targets;
∙ Manage and optimize efficient seed and food supply to ensure costs are maintained to acceptable levels; ∙ Ensure effective budgeting and costing management the company;
∙ Oversee company finance allocations and ensure adequate and proper utilization and management in all company units;
∙ Implement business processes and ensuring preparation of financial and performance reports, ∙ Responsible for overall administration operations and management of the company;
∙ Organize and conduct regular meetings with staff;
∙ Manage a team of field-based staff in a number of areas;
∙ Develop a company structure that supports the targets of the company;
∙ Manage the overall business practices, policies, and procedures to ensure the achievement of business goals and objectives;
∙ Liaise with multiple partners including farmers, government departments, large corporate farms, and external stakeholders;
∙ Manage and oversee potential risks, including monitoring of internal controls;
∙ Prepare business-related proposals, plans, reports, and other submissions for consideration by the Board; ∙ Authorize payments made to staff, casual workers, and suppliers in consultation with the Director ∙ Bridge and broker business deals and partnerships with relevant stakeholders;
∙ Define, understand and create long term strategies for market categories and segments; ∙ Initiate research on brands, consumers, and market segments;
∙ Develop and defend brand identity and positioning;
∙ Monitor and manage the performance of the products; and
∙ The General Manager may be called upon to represent the company at local and international stakeholder meetings.
Good communication skills, both written and oral, planning and organizing work program, skills in formulation of strategies and their implementation, and ability to work with minimum supervision.
∙ A Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural economics, marketing, business administration, or any related field. An advanced degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized University is preferable;
∙ 2 + years experience as a manager in agro-business development, with skills in business analysis; ∙ Experience in medium-scale agro-enterprise management;
∙ Experience in dealing with suppliers, traders, and exporters; and
∙ Experience in marketing and economics, whether it is for agribusiness or not.
