Project Description
The USAID funded Empowering East and Central Africa (EECA) program will increase the availability of and access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and clean energy in East and Central Africa with a focus on ending energy poverty, accelerating a carbon free future, and bolstering energy sector investment and innovation. EECA will support the accelerated connection of more East and Central African homes, businesses, and institutions to reliable electricity and increase its productive use; reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the energy sector by supporting cleaner electricity generation and just energy transitions; and increase energy sector investment, working in partnership with East and Central African governments to improve the enabling environment for the energy sector.
Responsibilities
Position Description
The Finance & Administrative Officer will be responsible for providing finance, operations, and administrative support to assigned field teams including general administrative processes, financial management, accounting, administration, HR, and logistics. This position will be based in Kampala, Uganda and report to the Finance Director.
Responsibilities:
- Assists the Finance Director in the administration and oversight of program funds in coordination with RTI and USAID guidelines; and are subject to the proper chain of internal approvals and authorizations.
- Maintains local accounts on the QuickBooks computerized accounting system; enters and codes all transactions in Quickbooks.
- In coordination with human resources, processes monthly payroll to personnel.
- Initiates all checks and other payments to vendors.
- Maintains local audit file, including filing of general ledger journal vouchers, accounts payable documentation, and other miscellaneous financial filings.
- Coordinate the day-to-day implementation of all activities undertaken in the regions, including assessments, contracting, training and monitoring;
- Prepare monthly activity plans that detail all activities and necessary resources needed for monthly activities in the field;
- Organization of procurement and logistic: acquiring quotations from suppliers, preparing bid comparison reports, makes all purchases; Coordinate travel arrangements for staff and consultants as required for project activities, including flight reservations, accommodation, visas, transport, and other logistics.
- Support scheduling for meetings, events, and workshops.
- Perform other administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Accounting and at least 1 year in the management of financial systems and budgets, financial reporting, auditing, and/or taxation and operations.
- Professional Accounting Designation (CPA, ACCA), or significant progress toward obtainment of designation preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and/or experiences in accounting, financial planning and management, accounting transactions, budgeting, reporting and ensuring compliance of internal control systems.
- Knowledge of accepted accounting practices and principles.
- Significant experience using Quickbooks highly desirable.
- Advanced working knowledge of Excel and strong database skills.
- Good writing and communication skills in English.
- Must be legally able to work in Uganda.
