Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) is supporting the Government of Uganda to implement the Project for Establishment of Sustainable Model Villages in Uganda (ESMV II Project).  The purpose of this project is to improve the quality of lives through inclusive and sustainable rural village development in the targeted communities with two (2) outcomes namely; (i) Increased household incomes and (ii) Improved social environment for gender equality. 

The ESMV II project is implemented in Mpigi and Mityana Districts. In Mpigi District, the project is targeting the communities of Bongole parish in Buwama Town council as well as the seven modal villages established of its first phase. In Mityana District, the project is implemented in Bukooba Parish and Kikandwa Parish of Ssekanyonyi and Kikandwa Sub-counties respectively. 

One of the activities of the ESMV II project, in view of increasing household incomes, is to improve animal production and productivity in its target communities. It is against this background that ESMV II project invites applications for the position of Field Coordinator specializing in Animal Husbandry.

Job Title: Field Coordinator (Animal Husbandry)

Duty stations: Mityana and Mpigi Districts

Contract period: 12 Months

Job Description:

The successful candidate will supervise, monitor, and train farmers in the livestock enterprises for the purpose of increasing farmers’ income in Mityana and Mpigi district. The candidate must have solid and demonstrated knowledge and practical experience of not less than three (3) years in the field of Animal husbandry.  He/she will play a key role in providing extension services and training farmers on good farming practices for increased animal production and productivity. 

Roles and Responsibilities: 

  • Training farmers on modern animal husbandry methods and proper animal nutrition; 
  • Treating and vaccinating livestock, other domestic animals, and poultry accordingly;
  • Ensure successful implementation of Village Income Generation Project as well as Women and Youth Businesses that focused on livestock enterprises (dairy, goat, and rabbit production);
  • Monitor livestock farmers to ensure application of modern animal husbandry methods and proper animal nutrition hence having the efficient and effective performance of the livestock enterprises;
  • Guide livestock farmers to put in place and regularly update the appropriate records;
  • Ensure that planned project component activities are implemented according to schedule and create impact among the intended beneficiaries;
  • Apply standard quality control procedures to ensure accuracy of project results and maintain accurate and timely records; 
  • Preparation and submission of timely informative weekly and monthly reports to M&E Officer and Project Gender Officer;
  • Perform any other activities as requested by the project management team.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:


  • Should have a minimum of a diploma in animal husbandry or related fields. However, having a degree in animal husbandry or related fields is an added advantage.
  • A minimum of 3 years demonstrated experience in community-based animal husbandry extension services and more so on animal value chains. 
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in facilitating animal husbandry program 
  • Preference will be given to applicants residing in Mpigi and Mityana districts 
  • Good report writing skills and the collection and compilation of field data
  • Very good communication skills both oral and written.
  • Must pose a valid Motorcycle riding license


  • Good command and fluency in the local dialect (Luganda) is desirable
  • Good facilitation skills and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Willing to work on weekends if necessary.
