Organization Background The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is one of the world's leading crisis response agencies, providing life-saving assistance and supporting recovery and reconstruction for people affected by war and natural disasters. Active in public health, education, livelihoods, women's empowerment, youth development, and protection and promotion of rights, IRC assists people from harm to home. The IRC was registered in Uganda in mid-1998 and implements rehabilitation activities in the sectors of Child and Youth Protection and development, Health, Economic recovery and Development and women protection and empowerment as well as contributing to the response to the Southern Sudanese Refugee situation. IRC Uganda has a head office in Kampala, field offices in Lamwo, Moroto, Kyaka and West Nile.  Scope of work The Ambulance Driver is responsible for maintaining the vehicle in good condition and perform activities as per the Job description in accordance with the fleet policies and procedures. Duties and responsibilities â¢Inspect and record the condition of the vehicle on a daily basis; prepare weekly maintenance checklist. â¢Ensure timely servicing and maintenance of IRC vehicles (complete service request forms and maintain service maintenance records); report to head driver any mechanical problems.â¢Ensure vehicle is insured and all legal documents are in order at all times; inform Fleet assistant three weeks in advance of any renewals due ( insurance, road license, etc.).â¢Conduct daily assessments of road conditions and security situation.â¢Drive Patients, Care givers and staff in a safe and courteous manner to during referralsâ¢Operate HF and VHF mobile radio equipment. â¢Maintain cleanliness of interior/exterior of vehicle.â¢Give accurate reconciliation within the given period.â¢Obey IRC vehicle policy and operating procedures at all times (use of logbook, no drinking and driving, signing out vehicle on vehicle registry and so on).â¢Assist with other duties as assigned by the supervisor(s). 

Qualifications

â¢Minimum Ordinary Level Certificate: A- Level Certificate is an added advantage; Valid driverâs license with classes âB1, B, BE, C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D & DEââ¢Minimum of two (2) yearsâ driving experience preferably with NGOs. â¢Able to pass the IRC driving test.â¢Demonstrated teamwork skills.â¢Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently.â¢Flexible and able to work in a dynamic and diverse environment.â¢Strong communication and interpersonal skills.â¢Excellent Microsoft word and Microsoft excel skills.â¢Willingness to travel to 'insecure areas within the constraints of IRC Uganda's security policyâ¢Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
