Genius Hub is a recruitment firm that specializes in talent search and placement of highly skilled individuals, we are looking for a highly motivated and knowledgeable individual on behalf of our client who is a not-for-profit organization that specializes in communications for development and behavioral change work mainly through the broadcast media and is looking for a self-motivated and qualified accountant. The ideal candidate will implement and monitor financial aspects of assigned projects and manage financial risks and opportunities, and provide analysis of the necessary financial aspects of proposals and reports for back donors.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare budget, financial forecasts,
• Ensure all expenses are fully accounted for through highly organized thorough documentation.
• Enter data into the accounting system (QuickBooks).
• Prepare quarterly financial reports.
• File different tax returns and statutory obligations at the end of each month and year that is income tax, Value Added Tax (VAT), Pay As You Earn (PAYE), National Social Security Fund (NSSF), Local Service Tax(LST) for project employees, annual Income tax and filing annual returns with URSB and any other taxes or statutory deductions that may arise.
• Draft and share monthly payroll with the Executive Director.
• Prepare for audits and work with auditors to ensure they have every document and information they need to carry out the organization’s audits.
• Handle cash including banking and issuing receipts.
• Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.
• Participate in the procurement processes of the organization.
• Ensure the organization maintains an asset register and inventory checks are carried out periodically.
• Take charge of the payment process to ensure all payments and bills are paid on time and correctly.
• Perform timely monthly bank reconciliations for all bank accounts.
• Maintain financial security by following internal controls and implement controls in areas of weakness identified.
• Enforce compliance with different donor financial accountability and reporting requirements.
• Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.
• Maintain partners/stakeholders' confidence and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential.
Skills
Reporting skills, attention to detail, deadline-oriented, confidentiality, time management, data entry management, general math skills.
Requirements
• A bachelor’s degree in accounting or any equivalent;
• CPA or ACCA is a must.
• Proven working experience as an accountant or in a relevant field;
• At least 2 years of experience in a comparable position, preferably in a donor-funded setting
• Thorough knowledge of accounting and corporate finance principles and procedures;
• Excellent Computer literacy in accounting packages and Microsoft applications;
• Experience in using accounting systems preferably QuickBooks; and
