GLRA East Africa is a non-Governmental organization with Headquarters in Germany, addressing health, inclusion, Humanitarian Aid and research in an innovative way. GLRA East Africa is active in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan, Sudan and Yemen, with its Regional office based in Addis Ababa/Ethiopia. Our mission is to continue to excel in our fight against NTDs, and use, develop and expand our expertise to TB, other NTD and disabilities to ensure that marginalized persons obtain access to adequate health care and inclusion.
Duty Station: GLRA Uganda programme office Kampala/Uganda
Employment type: Fixed term for two year with possibility of extension
Key Responsibilities: ➢ Strategic planning, organization coordination and alignment of the overall activities of medical team of GLRA East Africa
Region in general and GLRA Uganda in particular.
➢ Responsible for definition, development and implementation of DAHW medical-social policy at Regional level
➢ Responsible for development of Regional strategy for DAHW medical activities
➢ Ensure technical state-of-the-art support to program/ projects
➢ Research and identify suitable sources of funding (international, national, regional and local) for DAHW’s mission in East
Africa (together with regional Co-funding Expert).
➢ Guide, coach and support the medical experts from GLRA East Africa in the high quality delivery of innovative project
proposals ( together with the Regional co-funding expert
➢ Pro-actively seek and be responsible for new alliances, strategies, networking and partnerships in close co-operation with
medical team of each country, HQ medical advisor, Regional Representative,
Required Qualification & Experience:
➢ Medical Doctor with Masters in Public Health
➢ Training in TB, Leprosy, humanitarian and/or NTDs is a plus
➢ Minimum of 5 years relevant experiences among which at least 2 years is in coordinating a medical team
➢ Previous work experience in National and/or International Non-governmental organizations is advantageous
➢ Excellent working knowledge of English; desirable knowledge of other regional languages such as French, Kiswahili or
➢ Good user knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Power point, etc.)
➢ Good experience in networking and team work
➢ Carry out any other duties and/or responsibilities assigned by the immediate supervisor such as willing to undertake project
visits to the politically unstable countries, remote and difficult to reach areas.
a) Proficiency in written and spoken English. Knowledge of local languages is an added value.
b) Good communication skills (oral and written), intercultural competence as well as sensitivity in dealing with target
population (e.g. gender and disability sensitivity).
c) Willingness to adhere to DAHW’s safeguarding and related policies.
