Job Summary

Village Power’s core focus is to empower people in Uganda to improve their standard of living by building a last mile- customer centric distribution& service network that providesgreat value for money solar home systems, appliancesand services to people mainly in rural areas.

As an IT engineer, you will be responsible for Solving Real-Life Problems by developing awesome Applications, creating rock-solid Databases and integrating Hardware solutions

The duty station for this role is at head office in Kampala, although one may be required to travel upcountry from time to time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1.      System, Database and Server Stability and Security

                                i.            Ensure the Village Power Dashboard and associated apps (e.g. the Sales App, ODK) are stable and secure, meaning, up-time is 99% +. Up-time is being defined as:

                              ii.            The system must not be off/inaccessible/disconnected.

                            iii.            The system must not be so slow that working with it becomes impossible

                             iv.            Access to the system and the server are managed according to a need to know principle. Access can be managed remotely. 0% avoidable security breaches. Passwords are managed and accessible in the cloud.

2.      Problem solving & System Development

                               v.            Develop new tools, modules, apps or functionality for the company that are stable, fast and efficient. Performance is measured by:

                             vi.            Speed of execution

                           vii.            Quality of the developed tools/ modules

                         viii.            Creativity (“What problems were identified and solved along the way while programming and how well are they solved?”)

                             ix.            HQ Internet100% of ISP related downtime is reported to Management according to a pre-defined process.

                               x.            Goal: 0% non-ISP related downtime


Key Qualifications, Skills & Attributes

1.      Minimum of BSc Information Technology, or Computer Science.

2.      A qualified professional experience of at least 2 years.

3.      Technical work experienceor training in solar would be of advantage.

4.      Deep understanding and demonstrated knowledge of core IT concepts including routing, firewalls, operating systems’ maintenance, computer hardware repairs.

5.      Pro-activeness, ability to prioritize & work under pressure.

6.      A high degree of integrity, growth orientation, hunger for results, simplicity, customer centricity as well as anappreciation for a fun and positive working environment.
