SCOPE OF ROLE:
Reports to: Country Director
Staff reporting to this post: Finance Officer
Other key working contacts: This is a challenging role in a complex operational and contractual environment. It requires a dedicated, experienced and highly motivated individual who can manage the difficulties of working in such an environment and across project areas. This role will be required to have close working relationships with all managers, technical advisers and employees at the area and country levels.
KEY JOBS RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support in planning and managing the country office budgeting and forecasting cycle.
Review and development of tool, guidance and processes to support the annual budget and forecast.
Carry out review of country office budget/forecast to ensure the quality and accuracy of projection and raising concern as appropriate.
Consolidate monthly and quarterly financial report and budget/forecast for country office.
Maintain awareness and provide guidance on key operational issue in country office; act as business partner to the International Programme team in the UK.
Draft relevant section of financial board report including commentary on budget vs actual expenditure and key risk.
Act as the primary point of contact for regional office finance team on day-to-day accounting query, business risk and cyclical process.
Provide advice and support to country office including capacity building.
Provide support to strategic project and ensure ‘business as usual’ finance process is adapted as required.
Work with East African Playgrounds members to provide financial information and resolve query.
Work with Tax Compliance and Auditors to meet the expectations of East African Playgrounds
Comply with East African Playgrounds policies and practice concerning child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures
Any other duties that EAP deems suitable

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES:
Minimum of Bachelors Degree or higher in Commerce, Accounting or Business Administration from a recognized university, MUST possess a Postgraduate qualification or professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA, CIMA
At least of 5 years relevant working experience in working for International NGOs in a humanitarian and development setting.
Strong accounting skills and experience, including management of the general ledger, journal entries, payroll, payables, demonstrates sound knowledge of the relevant tax laws and other statutory obligations and with a sound command of the balance sheet interpretation and presentation.
Experience in QuickBooks
Strong background in external donor reporting for an international NGO and experience working with major donors like USAID, SIDA, EU, etc
Good financial management skills with knowledge of computer Accounting Packages and good understanding of Government budgets and tax policies.
Proven ability to work with a team under minimal supervision and being able to prioritize work and meet tight deadlines.
Strong Planning, organizing and negotiation skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in working with computers particularly spreadsheets and word processing
Proven records management experience i.e. for both paper and electronic filing systems
Experience of working within a team and actively involved in team building
Ability to work within a multi-cultural setting
Ability to multitask and prioritise well
High level of confidentiality and integrity
A team player who can work collaboratively and with people of diverse backgrounds
