Job Description

Pollicy believes in the power of data to revolutionize how governments deliver services to their citizens. We aim to digitally transform government services across Africa through an information-centric approach and craft better life experiences by harnessing improved data.

There are major gaps within government and stakeholders in collecting data, analyzing this data and using this data within planning, budgeting and programming. By improving data processes, we can improve how services are delivered, how budgets are allocated, how citizens interact with governments and how organizations advocate for social change.

Data Trainer Role

Pollicy is seeking a Data Trainer in Uganda to develop our data training program. We are looking for someone dynamic, flexible and creative to lead these operations across East Africa. You will develop technical training programs and help others develop skills that will make them better professionals.

Technical trainers must be extremely knowledgeable in their field of expertise and possess solid technical aptitude. Additionally, we expect you to be an excellent communicator, able to explain complex subjects in a clear and interesting way.

The goal is to contribute to the development of people’s technical/data skills to meet organizational needs.

Job tasks will include:

  1. Developing Pollicy’s data training program, including online and offline resources and community building
  2. Devising technical training programs according to organizational requirements
  3. Producing training schedules and workshop agenda
  4. Determining course content according to objectives
  5. Arranging for and conducting on-site training when needed
  6. Observing and evaluating results of training programs
  7. Determining overall effectiveness of programs and make improvements
  8. Planning and carrying out community events such as Data Club
  9. Supporting and nurturing an online community of data enthusiasts

Who should apply?

We are looking for mid-career professionals interested in working on how data can improve public service delivery for citizens. The position is only open to Ugandans.

You must have:

  • At least 5 years work experience in a relevant field
  • Have experience working on data collection, analysis and visualization
  • Highly proficient in Excel
  • Expert knowledge of programming languages and tools e.g. R, Python, SAS, STATA
  • Proven track record of applying new technologies to programming or make use of existing technologies to innovatively influence program design and delivery
  • Experience in conducting trainings/workshops and developing training curriculums
  • Fluent in English

Candidates must also have:

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to frequent and timely communication with local and international-based partners
  • Strong and creative problem solving skills with the ability to exercise good judgement in the resolution of problems
  • Ability to multi-task and deliver on several different project needs at the same time 
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision. 
  • Interest and experience working in civic technology and a commitment to working with government and civil society on solving public service challenges
  • Experience using technology within prior work
