Job Position: Chief Accountant

Reports to: Finance Director (FD)

Job Summary

To prepare, monitor, track, oversee, approve, supervise, collate, record, communicate & control financial risk in financial transactions, accounting & book keeping ensuring they are in line with statutory regulations & best practices, and assist management in proper decision making and financial management & planning in the company.  



Key Responsibilities:

1. Manage the Company’s Accounting System, including:

a) Manage the company’s accounting system and staff to ensure that they abide by accounting principles & best practices and all statutory & regulatory requirements;

b) Manage the company’s accounting system and staff and ensure the implementation and proper usage of the company’s finance manual policies and guidelines;


2. Implement & Oversee Internal Controls & Transaction Audits, including:

a) Monitoring transactions and conducting daily audits;

b) Confirming that vouchers are duly signed;

c) Confirming that necessary approvals are present;

d) Confirming that proper documentation is attached to the voucher book;

e) Confirming that every payment has an invoice and a receipt;

3. Supervise all the Accounting Department Staff, including:

a) Supervise and oversee the accounts assistant’s work and reports;

b) Supervise and oversee the issuing and receiving cashiers’ work and reports


4. Prepare, Supervise & Approve Daily Reporting to the FD, including:

a) oversee the submission of accurate daily reports to the FD by all accounting staff;

b) prepare the daily banking report to the FD;

5. Supervise & Oversee the Preparation of Reconciliations, including:

a) The reconciliation of all supplier accounts daily and monthly;

b) The reconciliation of all client accounts monthly;

c) The reconciliation of all bank accounts weekly;

d) The reconciliation of all submitted property rooming lists

e) The reconciliation of all account reports from the issuing and receiving cashiers


6. Prepare and Maintain Accurate Ledgers & Financial Records, including: 

a) Prepare and maintain an accurate up to date ledger for the company’s expenditure

b) Prepare and maintain an accurate up to date fixed assets register

c) Prepare and maintain accurate books of accounts, balance sheet, P&L statements


7. Prepare for Submission all Regulatory & Statutory Financial Returns, including:

a) Prepare the monthly statutory returns including VAT, NSSF and PAYE

b) Submit the monthly returns for VAT, NSSF, WHT and PAYE

8. Provide Periodic Financial Reporting to Management, including

a) Prepare monthly management financial reports

b) Submit management accounts to the auditor.



Requirements

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Accounting
  • Master’s degree in Accounting will be an added advantage. CPA or ACCA qualification is a must.
  • Computer software training
  • Knowledge of Quick books, MS Word, Excel & PowerPoint
  • Basic knowledge of client care
  • Training and experience in taxation
  • Similar work experience in a busy environment.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Chief Accountant/Finance Manager
