Job Summary

This position is responsible for ensuring that development and management of the financial and accounting policies, systems, processes, tax, regulatory requirements and financial controls conform to all applicable statutory requirements and best practice. The position is also responsible for partly managing payroll and related payments of the statutory deductions of the human resource administration function of the organization.

BASIC FUNCTION 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Financial accounting and management

  1. Oversee the receivables function fully.

  2. Oversee the payables function fully.

  3. Oversee accuracy of cash and bank management function.

  4. Ensure correct accounting principles are applied to transactions and recommend revisions in accounting procedures.

  5. Review and suggest continuous improvement of accounting and financial processes with a view of achieving best practices and optimal output.

  6. Ensure conformance of all financial policies and procedures with applicable statutory laws, company polices and general accepted accounting principles.

  7. Ensure all insurance policies in relation to company assets are valid and in place.

  8. Oversee continuous updating and maintaining of the company’s fixed assets register.

  9. Provide guidance to the officers in application of the accounting policies and procedures.

Reporting

  1. Oversee that all necessary reports for monitoring expenses are prepared regularly to detect abnormalities.

  2. Ensure that monthly management accounts are prepared and sent to the Group CFO for review.

  3. Ensure that bank reconciliations are carried out regularly and any queries addressed with the bank in a timely manner and that the same are resolved.

  4. Oversee accurate and timely VAT monthly reporting.

  5. Oversee preparation of audit schedules for external audits.

  6. Prepare any other reports necessary as and when required.

Human Resource function

  1. Compile and process monthly payroll reports and assist in payroll process as directed.

  2. Ensure that all statutory deductions are remitted to the relevant statutory body within the set deadlines.

  3. Supervise, coach and guide line staff to assist them in effectively charging their duties

Budgeting

  1. Prepare budgets.

  2. Monitor the actual expenditure vs the budget.

  3. Explain variances that may arise.

  4. Recommend budget changes review if this is necessary.

External Relations

  1. Initiate and maintain external relations (bankers, customer, suppliers, tax and government officials, external auditors, company lawyers, external consultants etc.)

  2. Receive and respond to correspondence.

General Administration

  1. Assist directors in overseeing their personal transactions and activities as required.

  2. Oversee that relevant regulatory licences are in place and are valid.

  3. Ensure that all statutory and regulatory reports are filed with the relevant authorities and payments made as required before the deadlines.  

  4. Oversee that any financial documents are filed in an orderly manner.

  1. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

  1. ACCA/CPA (U) qualification or a degree in finance.

  2. At least 5 years working knowledge in accounting and finance department in a supervisory role.

  3. Computer literacy.

  4. Knowledge of working with accounting software. Working knowledge of SAP would be an added advantage.

  5. Knowledge of Ugandan laws and regulations.
