\u201cTell me about yourself,\u201d This question might sound easy on paper, <\/em>But when you think about it, it’s really an open-ended and a tricky question. Unsure of how to answer? Relax, you\u2019re not the only one! Most people struggle with this question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s some good news, there\u2019s an easy way to answer the dreaded interview question.To better answer the question, you first need to understand why <\/strong>it’s asked in the first place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hint:<\/strong> the interviewer isn\u2019t looking for your life story, or what you had for dinner last night.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

But rather, it allows the interviewer to hear a short, summed up version of your career background and skills, it gives them insight into whether your experience and qualifications are most relevant to the position you\u2019re interviewing for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, what\u2019s a \u201cgood answer?\u201dWell, it\u2019s actually pretty straightforward. A good answer should be have the following elements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Tailored made<\/strong>– Take a scenario where you are applying for an accounting job, The recruiter doesn\u2019t care about your work experience as a real estate agent. Your answer must be tailored to the job you\u2019re applying for which in this case is the \u2018Accounting Job\u2019<\/li>
  2. Focus on Experience & Achievements<\/strong> – Your answer should consist of background<\/em> (what did you study?), top achievements<\/em> (how do you stand out from the other candidates), and interests<\/em> (why are you applying for this job?).<\/li>
  3. Structured<\/strong> – For your response to be clear and concise, you\u2019ll want to make sure you organize your answer following a format or formula. There is a common formula you may consider:  Past, Present, Future<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    The past<\/strong> – What is your career journey and past relevant work experience ?<\/p>

    The present<\/strong> – What are you currently doing before you applied? <\/p>

    The future<\/strong> -Why are you interested in the position?<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
